Maine Mountains Jeep Jamboree - October, 1999
Since we had never been to Maine, Cec and I decided to attend the Maine Mountains Jeep Jamboree at Bethel in the White Mountains of western Maine. We drove from the Detroit area to Maine across Canada through Sarnia, Tonronto, and Montreal. The leaves were just beginning to change, but we drove through rain for most of the trip. The tat-tat of rain on the soft top got a bit annoying after several hundred miles. But we made it and checked in at the Sunday River Ski Resort, which was virtually deserted. The headquarters for the Jamboree was the Bethel Inn, a picturesque old New England resort. Friday and Saturday we rode the trails. At the end of the day the Bethel Fire Department provided a nice touch by conducting a Jeep was for donations. We returned via upper New York State and stopped by Niagara Falls for a brief visit. Now for the trails... |

On the first day we drove Everett's Chili Trail on the Everett's heavily wooded property. The trail was moderately difficult with some water and rocks. At one point we crossed a rickety bridge built atop two logs. At lunch we stopped at the Everett's house for box lunches and home made chili. |
| On the second day we selected the ____ trail which wound up a granite topped mountain. The views were spectacualar, and the challenge was much greater than the first day. The highlight was a climb up at rocky creek bank that only 3 of a dozen or so vehicles were able to manage without winching. | ![]() |

The views from the top of the mountain were fabulous. I love the Rockies, but this was pretty nice also. |
| There were lots of stops on the trail--and plenty of natural chairs! | ![]() |
