William Swift of Sandwich

The first of the Swift line in America was William Swift (or Swyft) who married Joan, who is thought to have been a Sisson. William was born 15 April 1589 at Darrington, Yorkshire, England and died 1 January 1643/44 at Sandwich, Massachusetts. William's parents are thought to be Robert Swyft and Bridget Hastings. William immigrated to Boston about 1630 from Bocking, Essex County, England. Until 1637 he lived at Watertown and then moved to Sandwich.

The children of William and Joan Swift included:

  • Hannah (1620 -1664), who married Daniel Wing, Sr.
  • Esther (1662-1698), who married Ralph Allen
