Richard Sparrow of Plymouth
Richard Sparrow was born in 1613 in England and
came to Plymouth between 1631 and 1633. Their house is the oldest remaining
house in Plymouth and is a tourist attraction.. Richard died in 1660 at
Plymouth.
One of the notable events in his life was being
sued by Capt. Miles Standish growing out of his being given custody of
an Elizabeth Hopkins when her father died. She was to stay with the Sparrow
family until she was 19 years of age. On October 5, 1656 Captain Myles
Standish brought an action against Sparrow for breach of contract on behalf
of Elizabeth. Jonathan died in 17-5/6 at Eastham, Barnstable County.
Capt. Jonathan Sparrow
Richard and Pandora's son Jonathan (believed to
be their only son), known by the title "Capt.", was born about
1631 in England and married Rebecca Bangs in 1654 at Eastham, Barnstable
Co. Their children included Rebecca Sparrow and John.
Jonathan married second Sarah Lewis, and third
Hannah Prence, daughter of Gov. Thomas Prence..
Jonathan and Rebecca's daughter Rebecca was born
October 30, 1655 in Eastham, Barnstable Co., New England, and died February
1739/40 in Harwich, Barnstable Co., New England. She married Deacon Thomas
Freeman in 1673 at Harwich, Barnstable County.
