The first Morgan in the line was Mackerness Goode Morgan, who was born in SC i n1806 and lived in Abbeville Co., SC in 1840. In the records of Copiah Co., Mississippi his name was rendered both as "Marcenus Goode" and "Mackerness Garde".
M. G. Morgan's father has not been positively identified, but some suggest he was Peter Morgan. This is quite possible since Peter married Anna Maria Minter, whose brother was Mackerness Goode Minter. It is plausible that Peter and Anna would have named their son after his uncle. Anna Maria was the daughter of William Minter and Martha Goode, who is said to be the daughter of Mackerness Goode. Mackerness Goode traces his ancestry to John Goode and Francis Martha Mackerness of early Virginia. The given name Mackerness was common through the generations in the Goode family. John Goode originally emigrated to Barbados where he married Francis, and they then emigrated to Virginia.
Another possibility is Malin Morgan, whose will was probated in Abbeville in the late 1830's.
By about 1841 M. G. had moved to Hinds Co., Mississippi, where his daughter Sarah married David Morgan Murrah in 1845. M. G. and wife Sarah Morgan were married about 1828 in South Carolina, and she died about 1860.

After Sarah's death, M. G. married Mary Hudnall the daughter of Ezekiel and Nancy Mimms Hudnall both born in South Carolina and later lived in Copiah Co., Mississippi. They both died there. Mary married M Goode Morgan May 3, 1862 in Copiah Co., Mississippi. They later had two sons:
Goode Morgan died in LaSalle Parish, LA in 1868 and is buried at Pentecost Cemetery west of Jena, LA.
After M. Goode Morgan died Mary married David Fielding Bradford.
