The Collins Surname

"Collins" derives from "son of Coll" or "Cole", the nickname for Nicholas. The addition of "in", meaning "son of" completes the name "Col-in".

Henry Collins

Henry Collins, who was a starchmaker, was born in England in 1606. He married Ann, whose family name is thought to have been Riall due to the name of one of their children. They lived at Stepney Parish in a London suburb. Henry and his family along with 5 servants immigrated to New England in 1635 aboard the ship "Abigail". The Collins lived at Lynn for a number of years. Henry may have become a Quaker while at Lynn. Henry died in 1687.
