George Bower
George Bower was born in Manley, Yorkshire, England, the son of Thomas Bower.
Most report that Thomas' wife was Iwerner Minster, but that appears to be
the name
of the place where the family originated. Before 1620 George married Barbara
Smyth of Braithwell, Yorkshire, Eng. He was in Plymouth Colony before 1637
where he was a planter. He lived initially at Scituate and the moved to Plymouth
in 1639. He later moved to Cambridge. George and Barbara's children were:
- Benanuel, who was a Baptist and who was fined 4 pounds for giving a glass
of milk to starving Elizabeth Horton, an accused witch.
- Ruth, who married Richard Knowles.
- John, who graduated from Harvard College.
- Mathew
- Patience
- Silence
Barbara died in 1644 at Cambrideg, and George married next Elizabeth Worthington,
and their children were:
